PASTOR JAYMES R. MOONEY

Jaymes Robert Mooney is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, and serves as Senior Pastor of the historic Saint Bartley Primitive Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, which is the oldest African American congregation in the State of Alabama. In 2017 at the age of 27, he was selected as the ninth pastor in the congregation’s two-century history.

 From 2013-2017, Pastor Mooney served as the Senior Pastor of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 2011, he was a contributor to the book, Just Preach, Preaching the Word of God Primitive Baptist Style; his sermon, "We Faint Not" was featured in this anthology. His articles have been published in the Westside Gazette Newspaper, The Treveccan Journal, and Fuller Voices. He has been featured in articles by The Washington Post, The Miami Times, and The Tennessean. He was honored in January 2017, by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, the 24th Congressional District of the State of Florida, for his leadership in outstanding community service.

 During his time at Saint Bartley Primitive Baptist Church, the congregation has experienced significant spiritual and numerical growth. A full campus renovation was successfully completed in April 2019, along with the purchase of neighboring properties. In keeping with the vision of “Meeting Needs and Making Disciples”, Pastor Mooney has led the congregation to sow back a significant amount of its annual income into the community. In November 2019, he led the congregation in establishing “The Bartley Bridge,” which is a 501C-3 non-profit organization focused on community transformation through education, exposure, and entrepreneurship. A mobile bakery, community garden, and entrepreneurship academy for teens have already been established. 

A lover of learning, Pastor Mooney is a product of the Davidson County School System and Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he majored in Religion and Philosophy. He received his Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. He also is a first-year doctoral student at the Howard University in Washington D.C. In June 2012, he was united in marriage to the love of his life and high school sweetheart, the former Victoria Cleaves. They are parents to Taylor Noelle and Raelyn Imani.
